What are Bach Flower Essences?

What do you do when you are dealing with difficult emotions? We all feel emotions daily, often those are difficult emotions like grief, frustration, decision making etc. Sometimes there are difficult situations in our lives and with those come uncomfortable feelings. Last year I lost 2 pets and I had a job change and a major career decision. It was not easy, but I overcame it with flower remedies.

Bach flower essences, are a form of alternative therapy developed by Dr. Edward Bach, a British physician, in the 1930s. These remedies are based on the idea that emotional and psychological imbalances can lead to physical illness. By addressing emotional and mental states, Bach believed that people could restore harmony and well-being.

The remedies are made from flowers, plants, and trees, each believed to have specific properties that correspond to particular emotional or psychological conditions. Dr. Bach identified 38 flowers, each associated with different negative emotions or states of mind, such as fear, uncertainty, loneliness, and despair.

Bach flower essences are typically diluted in water and taken orally, a few drops at a time. The remedies are considered safe and non-toxic, as they contain no actual plant material, just the energetic essence of the flowers. These plants are collected from unpolluted areas, usually in their natural environment, at a time when they are in full bloom.

How are Flower Essences Made?

There are two main methods to extract the energy or “essence” from the flowers:

Solar Method: This method is used for delicate flowers that bloom in warmer months. The freshly picked flowers are floated in a bowl of spring water and left in direct sunlight for about 3-4 hours. The sun’s energy is thought to transfer the vibrational energy of the flowers into the water. This process ensures that the flower’s healing energy is captured while maintaining its natural purity.

Boiling Method: This method is used for plants, trees, or bushes with hardier flowers that bloom in cooler months. The flowers are boiled in spring water for about 30 minutes. The heat transfers the energy of the flowers into the water.

Once the water has absorbed the essence of the flowers, it is filtered to remove the plant material.

The resulting liquid is then mixed with an equal amount of brandy or glycerin (alcohol free) to act as a preservative. This mixture is called the Mother Tincture. To make the final Bach Flower Remedy, a small amount of the Mother Tincture is diluted further with more water and brandy. Typically, 2 drops of the Mother Tincture are added to a 30ml bottle, which is then filled with brandy and water.

Bach Flower Remedies are safe for children and pets, and do not have to be ingested, 2 drops on skin or hair every 4 hrs will work as well. Most important doses are early morning and evening before going to sleep.

Application

The final product is used by taking a few drops directly on the tongue, in glass of water, tea, coffee, juice or applied externally, could be added to bath water or dropped directly on skin or hair.
